The Doctrine of Lordship

What does Lordship mean as it is applied to our Heavenly Father? We often call God "Lord", but fail to understand what this title means. The Lordship of God deeply affects believer and unbeliever alike.

Isaiah 25:1:

O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful (ASAH PELE = MANUFACTURED MIRACLES) things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness (EMUWNAH = STABILITY, FAITHFULNESS, HONESTY IN CHARACTER) and truth.
God is sovereign and stable in His power, faithful to His people.

Isaiah 25:2:

For thou hast made (SUWM = TO APPOINT OR DECREE) of a city an heap; of a defenced city (LITERALLY = FORTRESS, WALLED CITY WITH A GARRISON) a ruin: a palace of strangers (ZUWR = THOSE ESTRANGED. REFERS TO THE UNSAVED) to be no city; it shall never be built.
God is sovereign in war and in the destruction of our enemies.

Isaiah 25:3:

Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations (GOWY = NON-JEWISH OR HEATHEN NATIONS) shall fear (YARE = TO BE IN DREAD OF, TO FEAR) thee.
Nations outside of His Will who have seen His power fear Him.

Isaiah 25:4:

For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast (RUWACH = BREATH) of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
God protects believers who trust in Him.

Isaiah 25:5:

Thou shalt bring down the noise (SHAOWN = CRASHING DIN OF A HUGE CROWD, BATTLE SCREAMS AGAINST THE CITY) of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
As Lord God is able to bring about total annihilation of the enemy.

Isaiah 25:6:

And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts (TSABA = ARMY, TROOPS) make (ASAH = MANUFACTURE) unto all people a feast (MISHTEH = A SPECIAL MEAL PREPARED FOR HONORED GUESTS, A BANQUET) of fat (SHEMEN = FAT, PLUMP, PROSPEROUS) things, a feast of wines on the lees, (SHEMER = DREGS, SETTLINGS. EMPHASIZES THAT GOD MAKES GOOD WINE FROM THE DREGS OF WINE) of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. (ZAQAQ = WELL STRAINED, VERY GOOD WINE)
God in His Lordship provides daily for His saints.

Isaiah 25:7:

And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations.
God has the ability in His Lordship to rectify that which man has destroyed. The veil/ covering refers to the universal rule of the old sin nature in man.

Isaiah 25:8:

He will swallow up death (MAVETH = DEATH, DEADLY SICKNESSES, DESTRUCTION) in victory; (NETSACH = AT THE GOAL) and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke (CHERPAH = THE SHAME, OBJECT OF REPROACH) of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.
God is Lord over death and life.

Isaiah 25:9:

And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited (QAVAH = TO BIND TOGETHER BY TWISTING. THE STRONGEST WORD FOR FAITH IN THE OLD TESTAMENT) for him, and he will save (YASHA = TO DELIVER, MAKE SAFE AND SECURE) us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. (YESHUWAH = DELIVERANCE, VICTORY OVER OTHERS)
Our Lord God delivers in the face of adversity.

Isaiah 25:10:

For in this mountain shall the hand of the Lord rest, and Moab (DESCENDED FROM THE SON OF LOT, THE SON THAT LOT HAD THROUGH INCESTUOUS RELATIONSHIPS WITH HIS ELDEST DAUGHTER. THE MOABITES ONCE SEDUCED ISRAEL INTO IDOLATROUS PRACTICES. SEE NUMBERS 25; HOSEA 9:10. THESE WERE INTENSELY IDOLATROUS PEOPLE. GOD DESTROYS ALL THAT CHARACTERIZE THE MOABITES IN THE AFTERLIFE) shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.
God is Lord over all false gods.

Isaiah 25:11:

And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.
In His Lordship He may either allow or cause an apostate nation to destroy itself with their own products.

Isaiah 25:12:

And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust. (APHAR = TO CRUSH DOWN INTO FINE PARTICLES OF DIRT)
If we rely on God in His Lordship we don't need to rely on our past means of protection. His covering hand is more than sufficient.
