Selected Studies In
Esther: Chapters One and Two Highlights

INTRODUCTION TO THIS STUDY

The purpose of this work is to guide you in Spirit Filled interpretation of this "Selected Study". As necessary we will provide outlines, historical backgrounds, note the purpose and focus of the text, and also provide the original hebrew language definitions for the key words in the highlighted text. The English translation used is the King James (Authorized) Version, not because it is the best translation available, but because I just plain prefer it for study!

All Scripture text will be presented in normal cased lettering, and all notes within the text will be in TRUE TYPE FONT, as shown. This (I hope) will allow you to avoid confusion between God's Word and my notes. As I update this website, I will continue to embellish the text so that anyone using NETSCAPE 3.0 or MICROSOFT 3.0 will be able to read the document easier.

If you discover obvious errors (as I am human, and do make mistakes), please let me know. Do not contact me to argue about the doctrinal differences that you may have with my teaching. I do not argue Theology with anyone, so all Legalists, cultists, and others with extremist views, please save your (and my) time. If you want to discuss your doctrinal differences, or share a viewpoint, please contact me at Didaskalos Ministries. I am not so arrogant as to think I know it all, or even 1% of what the scripture teaches.

Esther 1:1
Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (A reference to Xerxes I, who reigned from 485-465 BC. This was the largest empire in the ancient world, up to this time) (this [is] Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, [over] an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)

Esther 1:8
And the drinking [was] according to the law; none did compel: (ANAC, Strong's 597, to insist or force. Persian Law was highly moral for its time. No one was forced to drink) for so the king had appointed (YACHAD, Strong's 3245, to establish or ordain as Law) to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.

Esther 1:10
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains (CARIC, Strong's 5631, a eunuch {either naturally or castrated} who was in charge of the woman's quarters) that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

Esther 1:11
To bring Vashti (The first wife of the King. This was a prestigious position, and the first wife was usually called "queen" whereas the other wives were called "wife", and were subject to her) the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she [was] fair to look on.

Esther 1:13
Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (ETH, Strong's 6256, circumstances or events. These were the King's recorders or historians) (for so [was] the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

Esther 1:16
And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong (AVAH, Strong's 5753, to be crooked or bent, to subvert or sin against another. With great authority comes great responsibility) to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that [are] in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.

Esther 1:19
If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better (TOWB, Strong's 2896, good, pleasant, beautiful, excellent, lovely, delightful, correct, righteous, happy, virtuous. The Queen or first wife was expected to be an example for other Persians to follow) than she.

Esther 1:22
For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule (SARAR, Strong's 8323, have dominion over, rule, reign, govern. This is not just a policy established by the Persians, but is Biblical in nature. See 1 Timothy 3; 1 Corinthians 14.34-36) in his own house, and that [it] should be published according to the language of every people.

Esther 2:3
And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house (BAYITH, Strong's 1004, palace) of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king's chamberlain, (CARIC, Strong's 5631, eunuch) keeper of the women; and let their things for purification (TAMRUWQ, Strong's 8562, soaps for bathing, bath oil) be given [them]:

Esther 2:5
[Now] in Shushan the palace there was a certain (LYSH, Strong's 376, a specific) Jew, whose name [was] Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

Esther 2:7
And he brought up Hadassah, that [is], Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid [was] fair and beautiful; (TOWB, Strong's 2896, good, pleasant, beautiful, excellent, lovely, delightful, correct, righteous, happy, virtuous.) whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.

Esther 2:10
Esther had not shewed (NAGAD, Strong's 5046, to be in front, reveal, announce or bring to light) her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew [it].

Esther 2:12
Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner (DATH, Strong's 1881, royal regulation) of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, [to wit], six months with oil of myrrh, (MOWR, Strong's 4753, a perfume used for cleansing) and six months with sweet odors, and with [other] things for the purifying of the women;)

Esther 2:14
In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted (CHAPHETS, Strong's 2654, to take pleasure in, desire strongly. Carries with it a sexual desire or intent) in her, and that she were called by name.

Esther 2:16
So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which [is] the month Tebeth, (TEBETH was from December to January in the ancient land, or was considered Springtime, the rainy season) in the seventh year of his reign.

Esther 2:20
Esther had not [yet] shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment (MAAMAR, Strong's 3982, decree or commandment, order) of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.

Esther 2:23
And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book (CEPHER, Strong's 5612, register or record) of the chronicles before the king.
