INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this study work is to give you the original Greek language words and definitions for all the key words in this selected Bible text. This work does not make any effort to interpret the text in question, though some interpretation may occur naturally as a result of the study. The English translation used is the King James (Authorized) Version, not because it is the best translation available, but because I just plain prefer it for study!

All Scripture text will be presented in normal cased lettering, and all notes within the text will be in TRUE TYPE FONT, as shown. This (I hope) will allow you to avoid confusion between God's Word and my notes. As I update this website, I will continue to embellish the text so that anyone using NETSCAPE or MSIE 3.0 or higher will be able to read the document easier. Greek tenses are abbreviated as follows:

• GREEK TENSES:
• PR= Present Tense: Shows action in present time. When used with Active Voice, and Indicative Mood, often shows linear or continuing action.
• AO= Aorist Tense : Simple, undefined action. The time of the action is undefined, except in the indicative mood.
• FUT= Future Tense : Shows action of the verb as defined in the future.
• PER= Perfect Tense: The action was completed in the past, but has lasting and continuing results into the future.
• IMP= Imperfect Tense: Used only in the indicative mood, and refers to continuous or linear action in past time. As in "I was having".
• PLPF= Pluperfect Tense: The action was completed in the past, with continuing results in the past.
• GREEK CASES:
• GEN= Genitive Case: Usually indicates possession, though it can denote source of the action.
• INST = Instrumental Case: Usually denotes action on the object of the verb.
• DAT= Dative Case
• NOM= Nominative Case
• ACC= Accusative
• PL= Plural
• SG= Singular
• GREEK VOICES:
• AC= Active Voice: Action was completed by the subject of the verb.
• PAS= Passive Voice: The subject receives the action of the verb.
• MID= Middle Voice: The subject acts in some way upon itself or to itself.
• GREEK MOODS:
• IND= Indicative Mood : Makes an assertion of fact, and is used with all Greek tenses. Example: they will go, she saw.
• OPT= Optative Mood: Rarely used, it usually expresses a wish or desire.
• IMP= Imperative Mood: A command to do something.
• SUBJ= Subjective Mood: Makes an assertion about which there is some doubt, uncertainty, or indefiniteness.
• OTHER ABBREVIATIONS:
• PART= Participle : A verbal adjective, such as "having gone, receiving the gift".
• ABL= Ablative of source: When something is out of something. Example, The Spirit out of God.
• INF= Infinitive: A verbal noun, examples = to see, to go, to throw.

him to the face, because he was to be blamed. (kataginosko, Perfect tense = blamed with the result that he was still at fault. Peter's error was not fleeting, but was a doctrinal error that he held until the Apostle Paul forcibly corrected it. Based on this passage it is impossible for me to understand how the Catholic heresy started that the "Pope" is infallible, for Peter was far from this)
 

12  For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew (hupostello, to cower or shrink away, to hide oneself. This is the action of anyone who recognizes they are in doctrinal heresy)

and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
 
 

1  O foolish (anoetos, stupid, unintelligent. Those who are legalists are stupid people!)

Galatians, who hath bewitched (baskaino, hypnotized, bewitched, mesmerized)

you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
 

2  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
 

3  Are ye so foolish? having begun (enarchomai, to make a beginning in)

in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
 

11  But that no man is justified (dikaioo, declared righteous in the courtroom of God)

by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
 

12  And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
 

13  Christ hath redeemed (exagorazo, to buy from the slave market of sin, ransom)

us from the curse (katara,  imprecation, execration)

of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
 

26  For ye are (eimi, Pres Linear Aktionsart = keep on being)

all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
 
 

3  Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage (douloo, to be a slave of, be made subject to)

under the elements (stoicheion, Thayer says "the rudiments with which mankind were indoctrinated before the time of Christ, i.e. elements of religious training or ceremonial precepts among the Jews)

of the world:
 

4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
 

5  To redeem (exagorazo, to buy back from the slave market of sin, redeem, ransom)

them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
 
 

4  Christ is (ginomai, Aorist = has become)

become of no effect (katargeo, null and void, useless, powerless, unprofitable)

unto (apo = from the ultimate source of)

you, whosoever of you are justified (dikaioo, Pres Pas Ind = are being declared righteous, being vindicated)

by the law; (en + instrumental nomos = by means of the law)

ye are fallen (ekpipto, Aor Act Ind = to drift off course from)

from grace.
 

16  This I say then, Walk (peripateo, Pres Act Imperative = keep on walking)

in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
 

17  For the flesh lusteth against (kata, here = against the normative life of)

the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
 

18  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
 

19  Now the works (ergon, production, produce of, fruit of)

of the flesh are (Pres Act Ind eimi = keep on being)

manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
 

20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
 

21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, (prolego, give a stern warning, Present Linear Aktionsart = I have repeatedly told and warned you)

as I have also told you in time past, that they which do (prosso, Pres Linear Act = habitually practice)

such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
 

22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
 

23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
