Intercalary Month

The Jewish year is strictly lunar, that is, based on the cycle of the moon rise and set. This gives each month around 29.5 days, or 354 days in a year. The Jewish Holy Year begins with the New Moon of spring (approximately March 22-April 25 of our year). Veadar is a thirteenth month, introduced 7 times every 19 years, to keep the seasons in their proper months. The Jewish day always begins at the sunset of the previous day, i.e., their Thursday would start on our Wednesday Sunset, and end at our Thursday Sunset.
