The Doctrine of Repentance
 

Repentance is commonly misunderstood as "Feeling sorry for your sins, doing penance for your errors before God". But REPENTANCE actually means "To Change the mind; to change your viewpoint from following the World and Satan to following the Divine Viewpoint". This scriptural essay gives several key points on the Doctrine of Repentance:

ACTS 2.34-39 [34] "FOR DAVID IS NOT ASCENDED INTO THE HEAVENS: BUT HE SAITH HIMSELF, THE LORD SAID UNTO MY LORD (THE FATHER SPOKE UNTO THE SON),

IT THOU ON MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE TRY FOES THY FOOTSTOOL. ....[36] THEREFORE LET ALL THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL KNOW ASSUREDLY (GINOSKO ASPHALOS, HAVE AN ABSOLUTELY SECURE KNOWLEDGE),

THAT GOD HATH MADE (POIEO, ORDAINED, DECLARED)

THAT SAME JESUS, WHOM YE HAVE CRUCIFIED, BOTH LORD (KURIOS, GOD, A TITLE OF DEITY)

AND CHRIST (CHRISTOS, MESSIAH, A TITLE OF INCARNATE GOD).

[37] NOW WHEN THEY HEARD THIS, THEY WERE PRICKED (KATANUSSO, TO BE PIERCED THOROUGHLY, AGITATED VIOLENTLY)

IN THEIR HEART (KARDIA, HEART. NOT THE EMOTIONS, BUT THE MAIN CONTROLLING FACET OF THE SOUL SEE MATTHEW 5.28; 15.19; MARK 7.21; LUKE 2.19; 2.51; 9.47; 24.25; JOHN 12.40; PROVERBS 3.3; 8.5; 16.9; 23.7; 24.2),

AND SAID UNTO PETER AND TO THE REST OF THE APOSTLES, MEN AND BRETHREN, WHAT SHALT, WE DO? [38] THEN PETER SAID UNTO THEM, REPENT (METANOEO, TO RECONSIDER, CHANGE THE MIND OR ATTITUDE TOWARD. REPENTANCE NEVER MEANS TO "FEEL SORRY FOR SINS", BUT TO CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARD CHRIST. THE MESSAGE HAD BEEN CHRIST, AND PETER WAS ASKING THEM TO RECOGNIZE CHRIST AS SAVIOUR RATHER THAN AS A CRUCIFIED CRIMINAL. REPENTANCE NEVER MEANS "SORROW", OR HAS SORROW AS IT'S DEFINITION. THE HEBREW EQUIVALENT OF METANOEO IS NACHAM, WHICH IS APPLIED TO GOD IN AMOS 7.3,6; JONAH 3.10. GOD WAS NOT FEELING SORRY FOR HIS ATTEMPTED ACTION OF THE DESTRUCTION OF NINEVAH, BUT CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT DESTROYING NINEVAH BECAUSE NINEVAH CHANGED THEIR MINDS TOWARD HIM),

AND BE BAPTIZED (BAPTIZO, TO BE IMMERSED IN WATER. THE CHRISTIAN BAPTISM FIGURATIVELY IDENTIFIES THE BELIEVER WITH THE DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESSURECTION OF JESUS CHRIST)

EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME (ONOMA, NAME, AUTHORITY, CHARACTER)

OF JESUS CHRIST FOR (EIS, CAUSAL USE, BECAUSE OF. BAPTISM DID NOT MAKE SALVATION, BUT BECAUSE SALVATION HAD PRECEDED THEY WERE BAPTIZED)

THE REMISSION (APHESIS, PARDON, FREEDOM, DELIVERANCE)

OF SINS, AND YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. [39] FOR THE PROMISE IS UNTO YOU, AND TO YOUR CHILDREN, AND TO ALL THAT ARE AFAR OFF, EVEN AS MANY AS THE LORD OUR GOD SHALL CALL. (AS IT IS THE WILL OF GOD THAT ALL MEN BE SAVED (I TIMOTHY 2.4), THEN ALL WILL BE CALLED AT LEAST ONCE. THIS PASSAGE IS STATING THAT ALL WHO WILL ACCEPT CHRIST AS SAVIOUR WILL HAVE THE SAME PROMISE OF SALVATION, DELIVERANCE, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT APPLIED UNTO THEM.)"


MATTHEW 27.3 "THEN JUDAS, WHICH HAD BETRAYED HIM, WHEN HE SAW (EIDO, LOOKED AT. NOT GNOSIS OR EPIGNOSIS, TO PERCEIVE THE THE HEART. JUDAS JUST SAW THE RESULTS OF HIS WORK, AND THIS MADE HIM DEPRESSED)

THAT HE WAS CONDEMNED (KATAKRINO, JUDGED AGAINST, SENTENCED, DAMNED)

REPENTED (METAMELLOMAI, TO CARE ABOUT AFTERWARDS, TO BE SORRY FOR ACTIONS, TO REGRET)

HIMSELF, AND BROUGHT AGAIN THE THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER TO THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND ELDERS. [4] SAYING, I HAVE SINNED IN THAT I HAVE BETRAYED THE INNOCENT BLOOD. AND THEY SAID, WHAT IS THAT TO US. SEE THOU TO THAT.

(JUDAS CHANGED HIS MIND TOWARD HIS ACTION EMOTIONALLY, BUT DID NOT CHANGE HIS MIND TOWARD CHRIST. HE WAS "SORRY FOR HIS SIN", WHICH DIDN'T DO A BIT OF GOOD ... HE WAS STILL DAMNED. IN HIS SORROW FOR HIS ACTION HE CAME TO THE PRIESTS TO GET FORGIVENESS, AND EVEN THESE BACKSLIDDEN BELIEVERS REALIZED THAT ALL FORGIVENESS IS FROM GOD. HAD JUDAS CHANGED HIS MIND TOWARD CHRIST HE WOULD BE SAVED TODAY, BUT AS HE ONLY FELT "SORRY FOR HIS SINS" HE IS DAMNED)

[5] AND HE CAST DOWN THE PIECES OF SILVER IN THE TEMPLE, AND DEPARTED, AND WENT AND HANGED HIMSELF (ORIENTAL METHOD OF HANGING, TO FALL ON A SWORD, OR, IF POOR, TO FALL ON A SHARPENED STAKE. THIS EXPLAINS ACTS 1.16-18)
