Holy Spirit Not To Be Glorified

One of the major commands that the believer is given is to glorify God. As the Bible teaches:

1 Peter 4:16  "Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf."

1 Corinthians 6:20  "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

Specifically, God the Father is to be glorified:

Isaiah 66:5 "Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed."

Romans 15:6  "That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Haggai 1:8  "Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD."

and Jesus Christ is to be glorified:

John 17:1, 24-25  "These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:  ... Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me."

Romans 14:10-11 "But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."

Yet there is no admonition or expectation established in the Scripture that the Christian should glorify the Spirit of God. Why is this? This is because the Holy Spirit was given to us, to indwell us, so that we would be enabled to do works glorifying to both Father and Son. Jesus said of the Spirit:

John 16:13  "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. "

The Spirit shall not speak of himself. Unlike humans who feel that we need a little publicity for our actions, the Holy Spirit's charter from God was to lead the believer into glorifying both Father and Son. He does not need to satisfy an inner desire for publicity, but only feels a desire to honor the charter of the Godhead. When the believer honors the Holy Spirit rather than the Father and Son he goes against God's desire, against God's will. We are not enjoined to honor the Spirit, and the Spirit is not enjoined to speak of Himself.
