Deny your weakness, and you will never
realize God's strength in you.
One of the most wonderful things about knowing God
is that there's always so much more to know, so much
more to discover. Just when we least expect it, He intrudes
into our neat and tidy notions about who He is and how
He works.

From David learn to give thanks for
everything. Every furrow in the Book of Psalms is sown
with the seeds of thanksgiving.
A religion without mystery must be a religion without
God.
God hath given to man a short time here upon earth,
and yet upon this short time eternity depends
It is impossible for that man to despair who remembers
that his Helper is omnipotent.

If ye keep watch over your hearts, and listen for the
Voice of God and learn of Him, in one short hour ye
can learn more from Him than ye could learn from Man
in a thousand years. (Tauler)
When you come to the end of all the light you know, and
it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
Either you will be given something solid to stand on
or you will be taught to fly. (Edward Teller)
Worship lifts us up to see the problems and troubles
we face from God's perspective instead of being trapped
in an earthly, time-bound viewpoint. The higher we go,
the smaller our problems seem. (Tenny)

Knowledge of God can be fully given
to man only in a Person, never in a doctrine. Faith is
not the holding of correct doctrine, but personal fellowship
with the living God.
I can contribute nothing to my own salvation, except
the sin from which I need to be redeemed.

Wealth and riches, that is, an estate
above what sufficeth our real occasions and necessities,
is in no other sense a 'blessing' than as it is an opportunity
put into our hands, by the providence of God, of doing
more good.
He who provides for this life, but takes no care for
eternity, is wise for a moment, but a fool forever.

Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I
understand only because I love. (Leo Tolstoy)
The really important thing in life is not the avoidance

the man is led step by step to correct his errors, whereas
nothing will ever happen to him if he doesn't get going.

God is looking for those with whom
He can do the impossible -- what a pity that we plan only
the things that we can do by ourselves.
Let a man set his heart only on doing the will of God
and he is instantly free. No one can hinder him.
God desires and is pleased to communicate with us through
the avenues of our minds, our wills, and our emotions.
The continuous and unembarrassed interchange of love
and thought between God and the souls of the redeemed
men and women is the throbbing heart of the New Testament.
If faith is the gaze of the heart at God, and if this
gaze is but the raising of the inward eyes to meet the
all-seeing eyes of God, then it follows that it is one
of the easiest things possible to do.
God's redemptive revelation in Scripture is necessary
to saving faith and peace with God. Faith in a risen
Savior is necessary if the vague stirrings toward immortality
are to bring us to restful and satisfying communion
with God.
The blessed and inviting truth is that God is the most
winsome of all beings and in our worship of Him we should
find unspeakable pleasure.
And what kind of habitation pleases God? What must
our natures be like before he can feel at home within
us? He asks nothing but a pure heart and a single mind.
He asks no rich paneling, no rugs from the Orient, no
art treasures from afar. He desires but sincerity, transparency,
humility, and love. He will see to the rest.
I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing
after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present
low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious
lives is a result of our lack of holy desire.
We pursue God because, and only because, He has first
put an urge within us that spurs us to the pursuit.
Self is the opaque veil that hides the face of God
from us. It can be removed only in spiritual experience,
never by mere instruction.
There can be no doubt that possessive clinging to things
is one of the most harmful habits in the Christian life.
Because it is so natural, it is rarely recognized for
the evil that it is. But its outworkings are tragic.
Our religious activities should be ordered in such
a way as to have plenty of time for the cultivation
of the fruits of solitude and silence.
We need never shout across the spaces to an absent
God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our
most secret thoughts.
We pursue God because, and only because, He has first
put an urge within us that spurs us to the pursuit.
Much of our difficulty as seeking Christians stems
from our unwillingness to take God as He is and adjust
our lives accordingly. We insist upon trying to modify
Him and bring Him nearer to our own image.
An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of
His children. He does not distribute Himself that each
may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself
as fully as if there were no others.
We get our moral bearings by looking at God. We must
begin with God. We are right when, and only when, we
stand in a right position relative to God, and we are
wrong so far and so long as we stand in any other position.
The love of God is one of the great realities of the
universe, a pillar upon which the hope of the world
rests. But it is a personal, intimate thing too. God
does not love populations, He loves people. He loves
not masses, but men.
God did not write a book and send it by messenger to
be read at a distance by unaided minds. He spoke a Book
and lives in His spoken words, constantly speaking His
words and causing the power of them to persist across
the years.
An idol of the mind is as offensive to God as an idol
of the hand.
We must shift our interest from the seen to the unseen.
For the great unseen Reality is God.

You are not an accident. Your birth
was no mistake or mishap, and your life is no fluke of
nature. Your parents may not have planned you, but God
did. ... Long before you were conceived by your parents,
you were conceived in the mind of God. He thought of you
first. It is not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence
that you are breathing this very moment. You are alive
because God wanted to create you! ("The Purpose Driven
Life")
The purpose of your life is far greater than your own
personal fulfillment, peace of mind, or even your happiness.
It's far greater than your family, your career, or even
your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know
why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with
God. You were born BY his purpose and FOR his purpose.
("The Purpose Driven Life")
Many people spend their lives trying to create a lasting
legacy on earth. They want to be remembered when they're
gone. Yet, what ultimately matters most will not be
what others say about your life but what GOD says. What
people fail to realize is that all achievements are
eventually surpassed, records are broken, reputations
fade, and tributes are forgotten. ("The Purpose
Driven Life")
Every time you trust God's wisdom and do whatever he
says, even when you don't understand it, you deepen
your friendship with God. ("The Purpose Driven
Life" )

If God be our God, He will give us
peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will
make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace,
but God can create peace in trouble. (Thomas Watson)
God has given us two ears, but one tongue, to show
that we should be swift to hear, but slow to speak.
God has set a double fence before the tongue, the teeth
and the lips, to teach us to be wary that we offend
not with our tongue. (Thomas Watson)
When I survey the wondrous cross, On which the Prince
of Glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And
pour contempt on all my pride. (Isaac Watts)
Be still, and in the quiet moments, listen to the voice
of your heavenly Father. His words can renew your spirit.
No one knows you and your needs like He does. ( Janet
L. Weaver)

worthless. (Simone Weil)

Faith, mighty faith the promise sees
And rests on that alone: Laughs at impossibilities, And
says it shall be done. (Charles Wesley)
Help me, Lord, to remember that religion is not to
be confined to the church... nor exercised only in prayer
and meditation, but that every where I am in They Presence.
( Susanna Wesley)
Our faith should be our steering wheel, not our spare
tire. (C. L. Wheeler)
All we want in Christ, we shall find in Christ. If
we want little, we shall find little. If we want much,
we shall find much; but if, in utter helplessness, we
cast our all on Christ, He will be to us the whole treasury
of God. (Henry Benjamin Whipple)
A good witness isn't like a salesman, emphasis is on
a person rather than a product. A good witness is like
a signpost. It doesn't matter whether it is old, young,
pretty, ugly; it has to point the right direction and
be able to be understood. We are witnesses to Christ,
we point to him. (John White)
Apart from God every activity is merely a passing whiff

The renewal of our natures is a work of great importance.
It is not to be done in a day. We have not only a new

Whitefield)
Many times disillusionment comes simply because our

We find not in the Gospel, that Christ hath anywhere

their unity. (Roger Williams)
