| Gaius: [
Romans 16:23]. This Gaius lived in Corinth
and his spiritual father is Apostle Paul. He was baptized by Apostle Paul. (1 Corinthians 1:15).In his house there is a assembly (Romans 16:23). When Paul writing letter to Romans this Gaius sent his greetings along with Paul and others (Romans 16:23) Gaius of Macedonia: Not much details about him. Except his native. He is from Macedonia. He also lived at the same time of Gaius - I Gaius of Derbe: Not much details about him, except his native. He is from Macedonia. He also lived at the same time of Gaius of Corinth & Macedonia Gaius in 3 John: For this Gaius is not the Gaius mentioned in 1 Corinthians 1:15,Romans 16:23 and Acts 20:4 because of simple reason that Gaius in 1 Corinthians 1:15 is a Spiritual child of Apostle Paul where as Gaius in 3 John is a Spiritual child of Apostle John (3 John 4).This Gaius is with Apostle John. There is almost 30 to 40 years of age difference. John's Gaius and Paul's Gaius has same character being to the hospitable men, but differ in Place and time they lived. Gaius Personal Life: Gaius excelled in his Spiritual life(3 John 2). He has his own business of work for his daily bread, but his business life needs improvement(3 John 2). For this reason Apostle John praying for a. For material prosperity and b. Bodily healing and health. Gaius Spiritual Life: Gaius Spiritual father is Apostle John ( 3 John 3). He prospered in his spiritual life (John 3:2). and he had good report from a. brethren who came from abroad (3 john 3) and b. Brethren of Assembly. And a person of Good charity who is helping the poor brethren in the assembly and became partaker of Gospel by receiving the strangers ("Who came from abroad") just as they are, Just as we do for brethren and helped them. Now he has responsibility in the church to deal with Diotrephes and Demetrius (3 John 9-12). Gaius with Missionaries: Missionaries came from abroad to Gaius place. Gaius received them just as he do for his local believers. This is the way of a "believer" (V5) . and Missionaries went to the Ephesus and Missionaries reported before the church the charity he shown towards the missionaries. Missionaries again came to the Gaius place. Gaius received them. Now Apostle John suggesting him "if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shall do well:".(V6).These missionaries went forth for Jesus name sake with out expecting any money from gentiles, which is a good mark of missionaries. So help them so that we will become partakers in the Spreading of the Gospel ("Fellow helpers of truth") (1:8). Gaius in the Church: Apostle John already written to "church" regarding the command that "Love another", of course which is not a new command, but reminding once again. But still in church there are some issues with Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence(V9). He is not accepting Apostles (v9) and their teaching (which they wrote in 2 John). And there is another person named Demetrius ( 3 John 9) who is having good testimony in the assembly ( v12) from the missionaries (v12) and among the Apostles(v12) and from God (v12). |
