Object: A Christmas package decorated with a bow and ribbon, that opens up into the shape of a cross that has JESUS spelled out Horizontally and GOD(S, the "S" is the third letter of JESUS) GIFT spelled out Vertically. To make the box, either find one in a store that has all sides the same size (with a lid) and cut them so the box opens and attach the lid so that it opens up also, or use cardboard and cut out an box (with a lid) in the shape of a cross so that it folds up into a box. Theme: When we accept God's gift of Jesus into our hearts, it is a gift that can never be lost, broken or thrown away - it is the gift that never quits giving. Scripture: Luke 2:1-20 - the Christmas Story, read this before you show them the gift box. Lesson: How many of you are looking forward to Christmas? Why? Is it because you are going to get gifts, I'm I right? Let me ask you a question, do you still have all the presents that you got last year? Did any of them break and get thrown away? How many of you still have all the presents that you have ever got on Christmas? I have a very special gift that I would like to show you, would you like to see it? (Show them the pretty box) What do you think is in it (shake the box - you can put some small items in it like tiny hearts, or candy)? Do you think that I should open it now or wait until Christmas? (Slowly, open the lid just a little and peak in and make an expression of surprise on your face) Wow! This is a very special gift! In fact, this is the best gift that I have ever received! I'll never get rid of this gift! I'll going to keep this forever! Do you want to know what my gift is? (Open the box so that they see the cross with the words and then read out loud, "JESUS GODS GIFT") Did you know that God gave us the very first Christmas gift? That's why we celebrate Christmas every year. Do you know why God's gift is so special? Because His gift will never wear out or get old. It can never be used up or be broken. It is a gift that keeps on giving to us every day. In fact, when you get God's gift it is like having Christmas everyday. Do you know what God's gift is? The Bible tells us that when we disobey God's Word it separates us from God - that's called sin in the Bible. So when the Bible tells us to do things like obey our parents, or not to tell a lie and we don't then we have disobeyed God's Word. In other words, we have sinned against God, and can never go to heaven to be with God because He has never sinned and does not allow any sin to live in heaven with Him. So that is why God gave us His Son, Jesus, so that if we accept His gift He will let you live in heaven with Him forever. The Bible calls this Eternal Life. Doesn't that sound like a good gift? God gave us this gift because He loves us even more than your mommy or daddy, or even you grandma or grandpa does. That's a lot of love isn't it! How would you like to receive God's gift? The Bible tells us that you can, and it is as easy as learning your A, B, C's. - Admit to God that you are a sinner, that you haven't been always been obedient to His Word, and that you need His gift, Jesus Christ. - Then Believe that Jesus came to this earth as God's gift to give His life to pay for the penalty for your disobedience. - And Confess, that is, tell God and others that Jesus is your Savior of your life. When you do this, then you too will have God's gift, and everyday will be like Christmas because you have God's gift, Jesus Christ in your heart. Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your special gift, your Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that every boy and girl here tonight will accept your wonderful gift, and will grow up loving you with all their hearts. Remind all of us, this Christmas as we are opening our gifts to remember why we celebrate Christmas and give us the desire to share your wonderful gift with those who have never received it. We also pray that if any of these boys or girls don't understand what has been shared with them tonight about your gift, that they will ask their moms or dads, or their pastor or Sunday School teacher to explain it to them again so that your Spirit will lead them to salvation in Jesus Christ. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son. Amen. |
