Watch Out for those Dangerous “Radical Christians”

Once again, Christianity takes a slap in the face in the public media, and once again, more than likely, nothing will be done about it. More than likely, there will be no apologies, no remorse, no regret, from the speaker, the producer, the television network, or anyone with any authority who is remotely connected to the incident.

On Tuesday, September 12, Rosie O’Donnell, the famous homosexual comedian, publicly decried “radical Christians” on the ABC talk show, The View. O’Donnell moderates the Emmy award winning daytime show, along with co-hosts, Joy Behar, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, and Barbara Walters. The subject of discussion was radical Islam. Hasselbeck made the statement that radical Islam was a threat to free people in America. “Just a minute,” O’Donnell interrupted. “Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have separation of church and state."

O’Donnell had already stated that America was attacked on September 11, “not by a nation.” She continued, “And as a result of the attack and the killing of nearly 3,000 innocent people we invaded two countries and killed innocent people.” Joy Behar, interposed that Christians are not threatening to impose mass murder on Americans.

“There's that difference. This group is threatening to kill us,” Behar said. Hasselback, also surprised, said, “We are not bombing ourselves here in the country.” However, “O’Donnell continued her line saying, “No, but we are bombing innocent people in other countries. True or false?”

I certainly don’t agree with everything the government has done in the handling of every facet of this war, or any other war. However, I don’t, for one minute believe that America has ever been guilty of deliberately “bombing innocent people in other countries.” Whether or not Rosie O’Donnell really believes what she said, she is playing a game with words. Her statements are a classical example of the way systematic evil works. There are, perhaps, tens or hundreds of thousands of people who will hear about these statements and will begin to think… “Hmmm… could she be right? It doesn’t sound right, but I can’t really pinpoint what’s wrong about it!” Satan pulled the same stunt in the Garden of Eden. He used “half truths” in order to lie to Eve; he never used full fabrications. First he questioned God, and then he told Eve she would not die. She didn’t die physically on the day that she ate, but her eternal spiritual nature did die. She did gain an extremely limited knowledge of good and evil, enough to know she was naked, but certainly gained no knowledge like that of God. Such “half truth” deceptions are far more dangerous as lies than outright fabrications. This is the kind of evil speech that O’Donnell is foisting upon us.

How do you define “radical”? I would be inclined to define a “radical Christian” as someone who is intensely sold out to Christ, someone who truly loves God with all his or her heart, mind, soul, and strength, and someone who loves one’s neighbor as one’s self. In other words, I would call a radical Christian, a “dedicated Christian.” O’Donnell would contend such a radical Christian does not exist, by definition. She would insist that a radical Christian is someone who tries to bomb abortion clinics, beat homosexuals to death, and perform, perhaps, other types of violent and horrible acts. I believe O’Donnell would try to make you think there is no difference between this type of individual, and the individual that would insist that abortion is murder, that homosexuality is sin, that voluntary prayer in schools should be legal, and Christianity should be respected as a heritage in America. Is it possible that Rosie O’Donnell really thinks that any conservative, dedicated Christian is just as mean and nasty and hateful as somebody who would kill an abortion doctor, or hate a homosexual? The point is: it really doesn’t matter what Rosie O’Donnell thinks. What matters is what the massive millions of non-Christian people in America may be led to think about Christianity, because of such outrageously irresponsible and inflammatory comments from a TV talk show host.

Are you a Christian? Be clear to all people about the truth. Tell them you will always hate the sin, but like Christ you will love the sinner. Tell them, that you will pray for, reach out, and try to help the homosexual find the true love and peace that he or she is searching for in Christ. However, tell them, in meekness and humility, that you will never condone homosexuality, because the Bible says it is sin. To condone it would be the same as condoning the act of a child pornographer, or the thief, or the murder. Are you a non-Christian? Please be aware that Rosie O’Donnell is dead wrong about real Christianity. She knows nothing about real Christianity, because she has never experienced it. However, you can know the wonder of the real peace of Jesus Christ if you will “confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe with your heart that God hath raised him from the dead.” (Romans 10:9)
