Proverbs 6:16-19
Introduction: Lying is not a habit which you teach your
children. Psa. 58:3...The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.” In other words, that bundle of joy has become a liar even before he or she can speak. Don’t be upset with me, you and I were the same at birth.
I cannot stand for someone to lie to me. I can not help them. I do not want to help except help them speak the truth and repent of that wicked sin or lying.
Lies are like boomerangs, they will come back to you every time. Another important suggestion for liars, be sure that you have a good memory so you can remember all your lies in order to keep them straight.
As children of God, we must be truthful at all times. This is reflection of our Heavenly Father who is always truthful. Jesus himself called himself the truth. The Lord expect nothing less from us. Ephesians 4:15... “But speaking the truth in love...” should be an integral part of our Christian character.
There is no rationale for a child off God or any other person to lie. God’s word is very plain on this subject. If you are not sure, let’s look back at our text. Verse 16 says “a lying tongue”. Verse 19 reveals “A false witness that speaketh lies”. I want to deal extensively with liars and their lies. Let us always heed this principle of truthfulness. I want to share one more verse that we should not be guilty. It refers back to the two times lies and liars are mentioned in our text. Job 33:14 “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.”
