THE LAW OF GUIDANCE

Proverbs 16:3

Introduction: One of the exciting things about our Christian faith is that God has a plan for all of His children. In other words, He has not left us to grope in the darkness of confusion or indecision. Guidance involves a threefold demand from all of us.  People really crave guidance.  Our Lord will guide.

There was a song that we used to sing called “The Unseen Hand”.  It was a song about guidance.  Where God guides, He provides.  I found that when I try to go by myself, I lost my way.  But when I allow the Lord to guide me, the path is more pleasant.

Let me give you a few references about the guidance of the Lord in a cross-reference of verse three.     Job 5:8

“I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause”

                                                Psalm 37:4-5

“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

                                                Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

                  A.  The Commitment of Ourselves to God

  1. The Commitment of Our Service to God

                  A.  Our Plans are to be adjusted by the Word of God.

                  B.  Our Plans are to be adjusted by the Witness of God.

The witness of God is the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

         Romans 8:16

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”

The Holy Spirit never works in opposition to the Scriptures.  To say otherwise is sin.

                  C.  Our Plans are to be adjusted by the Wisdom of God.

                                                James 1:5

                  A.  There is the Fulfillment of Peace.

                  B.  There is the Fulfillment of Pleasure.

                  C.  There is the Fulfillment of Prosperity.

Conclusion: In a world of vague thinking, frustrated living, and unspeakable sinning, it is precious to know that God can guide us in a pathway of unclouded light and abundant life. The guided life is a guarded life, for when we walk the pathway of His direction, we know the power of His protection.
